MML Investors Services, LLC — Member FINRA/SIPC
MML Investors Services, LLC ("MMLIS") is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a broker-dealer and as an investment adviser. Brokerage and investment advisory services and fees differ, and it is important for you to understand these differences. Free and simple tools are available to research firms and financial professionals at Investor.gov/CRS, which also provides educational materials about broker-dealers, investment advisers, and investing.
We offer brokerage services to retail investors, including buying and selling securities such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), variable annuities, and other investment products. We may recommend these products to you based on your investment profile, but you make the final decision regarding the purchase or sale of investments.
We offer investment advisory services including financial planning, portfolio management, and investment advice. When we act as your investment adviser, we will monitor your portfolio and investments on an ongoing basis as part of our standard services. Our advisory services are offered on both a discretionary and non-discretionary basis.
Conversation Starter: Given my financial situation, should I choose an investment advisory service? Should I choose a brokerage service? Should I choose both types of services? Why or why not?
For brokerage services, you will pay transaction-based fees, commonly referred to as commissions, each time you buy or sell an investment. The amount you pay depends on the type and amount of the investment. Some investments, such as mutual funds and variable annuities, impose additional fees that reduce the value of your investment over time.
For investment advisory services, you will pay an ongoing fee based on the value of the assets in your advisory account. This fee is typically calculated as a percentage of your assets under management and is charged quarterly. The more assets you have in your advisory account, the more you will pay in fees, which creates an incentive for us to encourage you to increase the assets in your account.
Conversation Starter: Help me understand how these fees and costs might affect my investments. If I give you $10,000 to invest, how much will go to fees and costs, and how much will be invested for me?
When we provide you with a recommendation as your broker-dealer or act as your investment adviser, we have to act in your best interest and not put our interest ahead of yours. At the same time, the way we make money creates some conflicts with your interests. You should understand and ask us about these conflicts because they can affect the recommendations and investment advice we provide you.
Conversation Starter: How might your conflicts of interest affect me, and how will you address them?
Our financial professionals are compensated based on the products and services they sell. This compensation may include commissions, advisory fees, bonuses, and other forms of compensation. The amount of compensation varies depending on the type of product or service sold, which creates an incentive for our financial professionals to recommend products that pay higher compensation.
